All Hand Build Ceramics Techniques & Sculpture
Students will explore various clays and usable combinations using earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Through advanced hand building techniques, students will create ceramic projects that directly speak with functionality as well as decorative sculptures. An individual will learn hand built method to approach clay to create functional objects such as serving plates, bowls, lidded jars and wall hanging decorative pieces, which they get to keep and use! Students will learn many different decorating techniques such as sgraffito, carving, creating textures with stamps and various glazing techniques towards completing the projects. All the projects will be glazed with food safe non-toxic glazes. Students will be exposed to learning the nuances of the process of creating a work of art from clay to the fired piece of art.
Children (8-12) Coil, Pinch, Slab, Sculpture
Students will explore the nature of clay and learn basic hand building techniques including coiling, pinching, slabbing, and small-form sculpture in a step-by-step class. Students will create a myriad of beautiful plates, cups, pots, candleholders, animal figures, masks, and much more. Finished projects are finished with professional non-toxic, low firing glazes.
Teens (13-17) Coil, Pinch Slab, Molding
Students will explore various clays and usable combinations using earthware, stoneware, and porcelain. Through advanced hand building techniques, students will create larger, more complex, and highly individual ceramic and small-form sculpture projects. An individual approach to project decoration and glazing will expose students to bisque, low firing, stoneware and other firing techniques and basic kiln operation. Finished projects are finished with professional grade non-toxic glazes.
